Terrapin Horse Center

We offer self-boarding, full-boarding and everything in between!  All of our boarding services include a stall and pasture access.  Our matted stalls are 12x12 and 12x14.

What we mean by everything in between....We understand that many people prefer to self-board to keep costs down and for spending quality time with their horse. However, because of work and family commitments, maybe you are unable to care for your horse seven days per week.  With advance notice, we will be happy to feed your horse and clean your stall on the days you are unable to do so.  For some boarders, that is Monday through Friday morning feedings only.  For others, it may be the weekend you are away on business.  You pay only for the days and services you use.  This makes boarding with us convenient and affordable.  Self-boarders are also welcome to co-op with each other. 

For those horse owners vacationing in our area, we offer  temporary boarding.  Of course, your horse must be healthy, have an up to date coggins and vet certificate. 

For our boarder's convenience, we also sell high quality hay. For obvious health reasons, visiting horses will be pastured away from our herd.

$200/mos  

Full-Board (feed,hay,bedding and daily care included)                                   

$550/mos + hay surcharge and bedding surcharge when prices increase

Away Care for Self-Boarders:

**Price for single feeding and stall cleaning are for self boarders that are unable to be here twice daily to provide full care for their horse, but do come once daily to provide partial care.

**Full Service care for Self-Boarders while traveling on non-holidays    $20/day

**Full Service care for Self Boarders  traveling on holidays         $30/day 

(This includes: Easter Sunday, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)                                                           

**First and last month's board are due at the signing of your board agreement, prior to your horse's arrival at THC.  Thirty days notice is required to terminate your board contract.  First and last month's rent are non-refundable.Board is due on the first of the month.We do not pro-rate board fees**

** For hospice care horses and seniors a burial arrangement and fees must be discussed and agreed upon prior to arrival. We will do our best to assist you and accomadate your needs in this stressful situation.

**Our boarders receive a discounted price on hay as long as they purchase in advance, when we do, "off the truck".**

**All horses boarded at Terrapin must be well cared for including: maintaining a healthy weight, following our deworming and farrier schedules.  Neglect or abuse of any kind, of any animal (yours or ours) will not be tolerated at Terrapin. As a natural horse care facility we have a different vaccination protocol and do not allow certain vaccines to be administered at our facility or horses to come in that have been given certain vaccines 3 months prior to arrival.Please make contact to discuss our vaccine protocol/allowances.

**We are often asked why there is such a difference in the self-board and full- board price.  This is because our full board price reflects the rising cost of our high quality hay, feed, bedding and reliable, well trained employees to care for your horse.  A self-boarder pays for renting of a stall and turn out space and is responsible for their own feed/hay/bedding/labor.**

**We do charge  for extra care such as holding for farrier and vet, blanketing, fly spraying, deworming and  any rehab services (soaking, bandaging, night watch, administering medications, etc).**

Vacation/Temporary Board Prices

**A  copy of your coggins and vet certificate are required prior to your arrival at THC. For stays longer than a few days we do require a deposit **

Please contact us to discuss your individual service needs and pricing or to schedule a time to visit the property.  For vacation boarders requiring 14 days or more, we are able to offer a discount to the prices shown above. 

We offer everything from starting and finishing young horses to problem solving and reconditioning for mature horses.  We will give YOU the knowledge and skills necessary to become your own trainer.  Although this takes more time and effort from all involved, the end result is wonderful!  You will have the understanding and problem solving techniques to maintain your horse's level of training on your own.  The end result is a skilled, confident, relaxed rider on a skilled, confident, relaxed horse.  You will have built a solid relationship with your horse that is based on trust, clear communication, mutual love and respect for each other.

Training is charged by the session.  This makes it affordable for everyone.  It also allows each horse and rider team to progress at their own pace.

****03/11/13- We only offer lessons to our boarders.Our equine rehab work is taking most of our time these days.As soon as I find a suitable riding instructor we will offer lessons to the public again.I will update our site when that happens.****

 We offer individual lessons that are taught in a manner that partner the rider with the horse.  All ages and experience levels are welcome!  We especially enjoy teaching children that require extra time, patience and TLC.  Being with and learning to ride horses is a wonderful and valuable learning experience for these children.

Lessons are available in hunt seat and western pleasure.  All lessons start with basic horsemanship, understanding horse behavior and continue through to riding.  Whether you choose english or western, we will teach you to ride in a balanced, relaxed and efficient manner.  We will also give you the skills to communicate clearly and respectfully with your horse through the use of cues.  We also lease our school horses to our students that are interested on a month by month basis.  Leasing a horse is a great way to experience having your own horse without the pressure and responsibilities that come with ownership. 

Boarders are also welcome to bring in a trainer/instructor of their choice.  However, we do charge a small fee to the trainer for the use of our facilities.

Riding helmets and boots are required for your safety during all lessons.

We no longer offer hay for sale by the bale except to our rehab clients. However, we offer everyone the opportunity to purcahse our hay "off the truck" when it arrives.We may also order full and half truck loads (load=875 bales) for those that are interested.Simply place your order by email on our Contact Page. Your order must be in email form for our records.Please state what kind and how many bales of each you'd like.Be sure to leave your contact info.We notify everyone by email of arrival time as soon as we have the date.You must be here to pick it up when the truck comes or make arrangements in advance.Everyone is responsible for unloading their own. We require cash upon pick up or you may pay in full, by check at least 7 days prior to delivery and your check must clear by pick up day.

Alfalfa

Timothy/Alfalfa Blend

From upstate NY. Perfect for those feeding an all natural, forage based diet. The Tim/Alfalfa blend tests at 18% protien.We also have  straight alfalfa at 17% protein. This grower uses state of the art baling equipment.The bales are compact and banded with a standardized weight of 50lbs...all of the bales absolutely weigh 50lbs!! The flake size is also standardized for accurate feeding. This makes feeding and storage much more efficient .Because of the compression less moisture is able to enter the bale and cause mold growth. A big advantage in our hot/humid climate.This grower has also assured me that they do not use gmo alfalfa seeds ! This is especially important to us at Terrapin. We've found we are feeding 1/2 bale less per feeding for our horses than other hay we have fed in the past. It smells and looks great!! No trash, weeds or unknown hay in the bales. Lots of timothy heads and pretty, green alfalfa. The compact bales also make it easier to stack and store.You are welcome to come look before buying ....Please call ahead  to schedule an appointment  910-325-8338.We are a private facility and do not appreciate unannounced walk-in visits.

***We place hay orders approx every 4 months. Please order enough to last the 4 months.We suggest you order an extra week's worth incase weather delays our delivery.We no longer sell hay between loads.

***We understand that it may be difficult for some to get here to off load hay from the truck. We will off load and stack your hay for pick-up anytime during the same day of delivery.However, we do charge a  fee of  to cover our labor costs to do so.Or you may drop your trailer off the day before and we will load it for you so you just have to pick it up on delivery day. Again, a fee will be charged to cover labor costs.If you will not be here the day of the delivery to pick up hay/trailer,  we will be unable to give you the "off the truck" price due to the extra labor and effort to off load, stack and store your hay. Plz add a $2.00/bale to the above prices in this case.
