A tribute to our fabulous geldings.
Aaaahhhh Zeus.....Zeus and I have been together for 15 years now...Although it feels like we've been together for many life times! He is my best friend, my teacher, my "horsey" soul mate. He's also filled the role of babysitter and protector for my children when they were young and out of control on the farm. He literally saved my son from being stomped by a young stallion! He is my FULL partner in our healing work and all things Terrapin. He has hugged and comforted me through the hardest times of my life, even laid down beside me while I cried myself to sleep in his pasture.....and has joyously played and celebrated with me during the best of times. He is strong and powerful yet just and fair in his dealings with horses and humans alike. While at the same time always kind and compassionate to all beings big and small (an injured humming bird in his stall story comes to mind). His intelligence and ability to teach all of those around him is amazing! I could ramble on with 15 years worth of examples to support these claims....But you're in luck, I'm saving those for a book :-). Let me finish by saying...I was asked by someone last week if Zeus is "MY" horse...I hesitated and stuttered like an idiot. Simple question so it seemed. I didn't realize until asked that question, but I now consider me "HIS" human rather than the other way around. Once you see each other as equal (although different) beings, it becomes apparent (on an internal level) it is impossible to "OWN" another living, loving, intelligent soul. We choose to be together.... I can't wait to see what I will learn from him and experience with him in the next 15 years....I love him and trust him with all my heart and soul and I am honored he chose me as his student, his companion, his caregiver... "HIS" human.
Thank you Zeus !! 2008
Boss' Reward Zeus: 6/13/93 - 6/5/11 We love and miss you Zeus!!
My dearest friend and soul mate Zeus left this world, with a huge crash of energy and the hooting of an Owl, early Sunday morning (6/5/11 @ 3:33AM).His physical body has been failing for many years. It was finally time for his beautiful spirit to return home. His undying courage, strength and endurance thru all of his pain and suffering is astounding. At the same time, his love, patience, compassion and kindness for all beings never waivered thru these agonizing times. He hid it well to lessen the suffering of those around him.He is an amazing teacher and has touched so many lives, horse and human alike. The wisdom he shared is beyond measure. His presence, love and strength brought about changes in me I never would have thought possible. For this I am truly grateful. Some of the greatest lessons he taught even in his dying and death. His body was returned to the Earth with all of the love, honor, respect and grattitude that he selflessly bestowed upon others during his own brief life.Vios Con Dios mi amigo Zeus!.." Our love is a bridge between our souls. It keeps us connected wherever our paths may go." A line from a poem I wrote for him many months back. I love you always and forever "Z". Thank you for sharing your beautiful essence with all of us ! There's a hole in our lives at Terrapin for the moment .Plz keep all of the humans and animals that are grieving in your prayers for comfort, acceptance and peace. We will move forward with strength, unity, love and speed to honor our amazing friend Zeus ! Thank you to all that have supported us and shown us kindness and love thru this difficult time.- Cindy
Sweet Striker D. or Doodle bug or just Bug or D. for short. His expressive "bedroom" eyes will pull you right in! Strike has been with me almost as long as Zeus....about 14yrs. He's a wonderful, patient, kind soul and a trusted companion to Zeus and me. He's never once complained about being second in line to Zeu and has always happily done his share of the work. He's trained his share of children (and husbands !!) as one of our trusted school horses. His habit of ear pinning, learned from his mother, can throw people off track about who he really is...He is easily the most affectionate, loving horse in the barn. His silly antics with his tongue and mouth after treats or food
bring a giggle to everyones' lips and a smile to their faces. He's the guy to let your inexperienced friend (or husband !!) hop on for a relaxing bareback ride in the woods...Zeus and I would be lost without Strike!! We love you Dewey!!
