Terrapin Horse Center feels that horses are here for much more than just pleasure and performance riding. Horses are great teachers and loving companions. If we pay attention, a horse can teach us so many things about ourselves. They can show us our weaknesses and those things in ourselves that need improvement. They usually point out our shortcomings rather quickly :-) with an attitude of "let's get right to work!". They will also show us our strengths and build our confidence in all areas of our life. Our hidden gifts and talents come to the surface as we grow with our horses. Being herd animals, they also teach us how to cooperate with others in a group setting. Some horses are soft, patient, gentle teachers that slowly nudge you along your path. Others are demanding, decisive, bold and sometimes strict teachers that help those of us that tend to be a bit stubborn or egotistical. Both styles of teaching have your best interest at heart. The best way to see and bring about change in others and the world is to change yourself first. Horses will help you make the changes necessary to become the person you desire to be (or your horse desires you to be ) first, then your world will follow your example. The horses are extremely good at showing us humans this!!
